DRAFT Schedule Information Press Release Special Guests Area Carillons Dan Kehoe Suzanne Magassy

Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut will host a first-ever carillon festival in the summer of 2007, honoring several anniversaries.

Trinity College Carillon and Chapel will celebrate its 75th anniversary, it will be Dan Kehoe’s 25th anniversary as College Carillonneur, and also the 25th anniversary of the GCNA Congress in 1982!

The dates earmarked for this event are Monday, June 25th through Wednesday, June 27th, which follow the GCNA Congress at Sewanee. This allows the weekend between both events to be free for travel and touring. Events at the Trinity Festival will start late in the afternoon on Monday, June 25th and conclude with the closing recital and banquet Wednesday evening, June 27th.

Co-planning this event with Dan Kehoe will be Trinity College’s Visiting International Carillonneur Suzanne Magassy from Australia. As the event comes together we will be forwarding information to you. If you have comments on how to make this a memorable event for all, please contact either Dan at dankehoe@cox.net or Sue at tenor@effect.net.au with your ideas.

Each day will feature a short recital at noon and two 30-minute recitals in the evening performed by guest carillonneurs.  Retiring College Carillonneur Dan Kehoe will play the hour-long concert on Wednesday evening at 7 p.m. as a part of the regular Summer Carillon Series.  The public is also invited to bring a picnic supper and enjoy these evenings of music which will begin approximately 5:30 p.m. and conclude at 8 p.m.

This festival kicks off the regularly scheduled summer carillon series on Wednesday evenings which will continue weekly through mid-August 2007.  The summer series features a chamber recital in the Chapel at 6 p.m. with the carillon following at 7 p.m.  Trinity’s popular carillon series began in 1950 and remains one of the longest running and best attended series in the world.

We hope to include the chapel’s famous Austin organ in recital also, as well as other dance and musical performances in and outside the chapel between the evening carillon recitals.

We want this event to be a relaxed gathering of carillonneurs with plenty of time in the Hartford area, with perhaps a visit to carillons close by, information on the history of Trinity, a gourmet picnic on the quadrangle one evening, and other happenings.

Hotel space on campus and nearby is being arranged with shuttles back and forth.

The festival is in its earliest stages of planning, but we wanted our friends and fellow carillonneurs to be aware of this important and fun event as summer tours are being arranged, so mark the dates now!  We look forward to seeing you at Trinity in 2007!
